Constitution and Bylaws

ARTICLE I - NAME

The name of this organization shall be the Cruising Club of Virginia.

ARTICLE II - OBJECT

To promote and encourage sailing and racing in handicap and one design classes.

ARTICLE III - POLICY

(a) Maintain a program which will insure continuing interest in these classes and the Club.
(b) Encourage the participation of all eligible boat owners.
(c) Require the adherence of all members to the CBYRA rules

ARTICLE IV - MEMBERSHIP

Active membership in the Cruising Club of Virginia shall consist of owners, spouses and crews of boats recognized and measured in the accepted classes according to CBYRA rules.  Associate membership shall consist of persons interested in promoting sailing and racing.  Voting will be by all members present at the meetings, except that all matters pertaining to races and racing.  including the yachts themselves, shall be decided by the vote only of sailboat member owners.

ARTICLE V - OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS

The officers of the Club shall consist of a Commodore, Vice Commodore, Secretary-Treasurer, and a Board of Directors which shall be composed of representatives of each class.  Officers and directors to be elected at the annual meeting.

ARTICLE VI - MEETINGS

The board will be required to hold an annual meeting for conducting the Club's elections.  Special meetings may be called by the Board of Directors.

ARTICLE VII - ELIGIBILITY OF BOATS

Members' yachts shall comply in every respect to the requirements of their respective classes as recognized by CBYRA.

ARTICLE VIII - DUES

Annual membership dues will be determined by the Board of Directors.  These dues will be paid for membership from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.

ARTICLE IX - COMMITTEES

The Commodore shall appoint a Membership Committee and a Race Committee, plus any other committees needed to further the program.

ARTICLE X - CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS CHANGES

Changes to the Constitution and Bylaws may be made at any meeting by a majority vote of the membership present, after two weeks notice by mail to all members.
