SOUTHERN BAY RACE WEEK (May 29-31) is the largest, fully sanctioned regatta for racers of all levels on the southern Bay. There are two racing venues to provide for one-design classes, all PHRF spinnaker classes and the newly instituted PHRF Non-Spinnaker-1 (single headsail only) fleet along with PHRF Non-Spin-2 (double headsail allowed) and the Cruising Fleet. And, there are three (3) days of great racing and four (4) great parties. Southern Hospitality is the main theme of this event. The Goslings Black Seal Cup goes to the overall winner of SBRW. Check-in, welcome party, and skippers meeting is Thursday, May 28. Event headquarters: Hampton Yacht Club, Hampton, VA. 60th running of the DOWN THE BAY RACE for the VIRGINIA CRUISING CUP starts at Annapolis and goes non-stop to Hampton. The start is on Friday, May 22, of Memorial Day Weekend. Organizing Authority = Storm Trysail Club, Chesapeake Station (start - Annapolis) and Hampton Yacht Club (finish-Hampton). Finish Line Headquarters and Awards Presentation is at Hampton Yacht Club on Saturday, May 23.
CCV would like to announced the inception of an additional Wednesday night series for 2008 (1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd). The series is intended to extend mid-week racing in the Hampton Roads area and give back to the local sailing community. Trophies presented for the series.
The cost is FREE, BUT BOATS MUST SUBMIT a CBYRA Standard Entry Form. Racing will take place in Hampton Roads harbor (start at Mark A). Starting time will be 1800 / 6PM and there is a 2000 / 8PM time limit. There will be only two fleets - spinnaker and non-spinnaker. As a point of information, this Fall, Daylight Savings Time ends on November 2, 2008.
Bruce The Shark has been absent from the local racing circuit for a couple of seasons; however, he will be terrorizing the waters of the Chesapeake once again. John and Beverly Blais have bought Bruce a new ride--a 2008 Beneteau 36.7! The boat will be named Stardancer. You can see Bruce smiling in this picture. Bev and John are smiling too!
The results for the CCV Spring Series have been posted to the Racing page. Where results are available, the CBYRA number is now a link to the results.
Information has been posted about the 2008 CCV Skippers Clinic. You will also find a link to it on the left-side of the Membership page. The registration deadline is April 25.
Don't forget the CCV tune-up race is this Sunday, April 13. Warning is at 1100 hours. Please remember to check in with the race committee upon arriving at the starting area.
Several clubs are beginning their non-sanctioned race series starting April 2 with Hampton Yacht Club and followed shortly by Old Point Comfort, Broad Bay Sailing Association, and Portsmouth Boat Club.

Double Negative Makes a Positive - No, it's no longer the Not Smith Point Race. CCV has revised the race format and changed the name to the MOONLIGHT TRIANGLE RACE (July 26) The start will be late in the day with the finish probably around midnight after sailing a mid-distance course within the area between the mouth of the York River, Buckroe Beach and Ocean View. The Moonlight Triangle Race will join Hampton Yacht Club's Plantation Light Race (Aug 15) to make two races on the southern Bay offering summer night racing.
